Why are assault mechs so slow? Empty Why are assault mechs so slow?

This topic came up again on the MWO forums, and I wanted to share my reply with our group so everyone would understand my feelings about it.

This post was in reply to You Fell Behind...

To the guys that say "LOL, bro, y u soooo slow? Get bigger vroom vroom", I would say only this. I am in an assault mech, not a race car.My job is not to go fast - that's the job of the lights (and mediums, to some extent). My job is not to harrass the enemy and fade away. My job is to get in their face and pound on them unti lthey begin to question their life choices. My job is to leave openings for my team to secure kills. That guy who wades into the enemy team and dies doing 800 damage, leaving a string of crippled and half dead mechs in his wake - yeah, that's me. We can do direct fire and missile support at the same time, while carrying an AMS and ecm.

Playing an assault mech is not a race, it's not glorious, and a lot of the time we get focused on and burned down - but who else are you going to fill our hole with?

I do not do it for the glory - I do it because it has to be done, and frankly, I don't trust any of the rest of you ass rangers to do it right.

World of Warships has the same problem. "Lol scrub battleship went alone and got torped." Assaults can't move as fast as you. Stay with them. This is a big problem in cw and why the clans seem to work better is because they all move at nearly the same speed. If you use throttle decay then you are probably going full speed all the time and not staying with the group. A lone mech is a dead mech.

I use Keypad to set speed on CW if I am in a light/Med.

I always move full speed in my lights, I just make a lot of turns, that way I am still with the assaults, but my to-hit modifier is as high as it can be Razz

The only assault mech I own right now is a Zeus 5S, decent speed for an assault mech. I can literally outmaneuver the rest of my assault lance at times. Which is not good, I have to look at my mini-map and remind myself to slow down for the Atlas and King Crab's.

It's very bad on the new map, Polar Highlands. I was getting left behind every match. It was NASCAR to the extreme on that map, and each time the enemy team got to our assault lance first. The map is very large, and open. It feels like you can be attacked from any direction.

Sounds like my Marauder BH-2, and that's just a heavy. Keep being so slow I get isolated and gang banged.
